Los edificios prehistóricos de la Punta des Patró (Mallorca) y su distribución interna a partir del análisis de los moluscos marinos
Abstract
The remains of marine molluscs found in the excavations of the Punta des Patró archaeological site, which uncovered two buildings used during the Majorcan Iron Age (Talayotic and Balear period, respectively) are described in this paper. The first building is not associated with a ritual activity, on the contrary, the second can be qualified as a sanctuary, being closely linked to the nearby necropolis of Illot des Porros.
The study has focused on the taphonomic and taxonomic aspects of the molluscs’ shells, which has allowed us to observe plain evidences of their use as food elements and their involvement in certain rituals related to fire, as well as to begin to glimpse a possible distribution of the ritual activities carried out within the sanctuary. In addition, some questions about the stratigraphy of the site have been clarified.
