«Andare a + infinito» in italiano. Parametri di variazione sincronici e diacronici
Abstract
In this article, we examine the syntactic and semantic characteristics of the Italian construction andare a + infinitive. In particular, we intend to verify if the verb andare in this case is grammaticalized as an auxiliary as it is in the periphrases in which the same verb occurs with gerund or past participle. We have based our research on a corpus comprising both texts in ancient Sicilian and in ancient Italian, from the 14th and 15th centuries, and contemporary texts in regional Italian from both Sicily and Northern Italy, as it is our purpose to verify how the dimensions of diatopic and diachronic variety intertwine in the characterisation of the construction.Downloads
