Davide Segre's Poems: an unpublished Appendix to "History"
Abstract
The manuscripts of History contain a few leaves that reveal the proposal to publish an Appendix to the novel: two poems written by Davide Segre as a teenager. These poems (Spring and God) concern the idea of Poetry and the role of the Poet, together with the perception of art as a way to speek to God. Analyzing this unpublished Appendix, it is possible to focus on the carachter of Davide Segre and the relationship between Useppe and him. The poems also allow to underline the contradictions of Davide Segre and his idea of God, Religion and Poetry. Finally, a philological approach to the whole manuscript of the novel allows to suppose the reasons for not publishing the notebook of Davide.Downloads
