Abstract

This paper reviews the study El Dioscórides de Laguna y el manuscrito de Páez de Castro by Antonio Guzmán Guerra. The main goal of Guzmán's study was to situate in the stemma codicum an ancient manuscript owned by Páez de Castro that was used by Andrés Laguna when translating the Dioscorides. We reconsider Guzmán's initial hypothesis that the entirety of the marginal notes that Laguna included in his translation originated in this manuscript, and we do so in light of another work by Laguna, Annotationes in Discoridem Anazarbeum. Our analysis reveals an even closer link between Páez's manuscript and codex R. III. 3 from El Escorial that Guzmán Guerra previously thought, showing that they are, in fact, one and the same.
