Abstract

In this paper two Cretan words of uncertain meaning, contained in the inscriptions at Gortyn (IC IV 41 and IC IV 72), are examined. After analysing these texts, the author suggests that ἐπιδίομαι means ‘to go in search of’ and ἐπιμωλέω means ‘to go to law afterwards’, where the preverb provides a decisive connotation to the sense of the verbs.
