Asphodel and agapanthus. Survivals and transformations in the search for eternity yesterday and today
Abstract
It is our intention to reflect on the survival and transformation of a range of rites and beliefs related to the beyond from ancient times to the present day by comparing examples taken from traditional Neo-Hellenic poetry and the work of three contemporaneous poets (Palamas, Seferis and Mavilis) with rites and beliefs as transmitted by ancient literary, philosophical and historical texts.
