Abstract

The author analyses Appian’s first person interventions in the Roman History in order to obtain a precise image of his Authorial voice. The analysis of these interventions allows concluding that Appian hardly ever used the first person in historiographical judgments, but in structural indications. The nature and distribution of these interventions also confirms the different character of the Civil Wars’ books, and the useful purpose of the Roman History.
