Strabo as διορθωτής of Homer
Abstract
This paper reviews some Homeric quotations in Strabo’s Geography in which the Geographer poses a possible inaccuracy in the Homeric text. Strabo contrasts his own readings with other ancient authors, operating by certain criteria (text antiquity, lack of data by Homer, etc.), to decide any possible emendatio. It is concluded that the geographer tends to transmit the ancient readings, and fi nally some features of the Homeric text are given.Downloads
