Plutarch and the qualities of the women of Phocis through verbal lexemes in Γυναικῶν ἀρεταί
Abstract
Plutarch, in Virtues of Women, writes that virtue is the same for both men and women, but what distinguishes them is their subjective peculiarity of to that virtue. This study proposes to extract and clarify what the virtues of the women of Phocis could be through the semantic analysis of the verbal lexemes, with which the author carries out the narration of their feats. Likewise, the analysis aims to discover the interior disposition of the women, and thus try to glimpse other women that is not Athenian or Spartan, as these last are the most well-known thanks to the authors, Plutarch among them.
