Sound Documentation in Spain through Piano Roll collections
Abstract
The study of music rolls, or perforated paper rolls with musical indications, has been the subject of study and interest in recent years in Spain. Although it is true that the largest collection of music rolls is to be found in the National Library of Spain, various institutions and organisations of all kinds have been bringing these unique collections of musical documents to light. Along with the collections of institutional bodies, other private collections of great interest have also appeared. Through this contribution we will point out some of the ones we’ve studied, noting their singularities and characteristics.
