Abstract

The article describes the process of construction of the Digital Archive of Documentary Film (AdCD) of Eastern region of Cuba. Its creation pretends to address several cultural problematics affecting the cinematic ambience (mediascape) of documentary practice in the zone. The objective of this paper is demonstrate that the cinematic archive constitutes a frame where different theoretical conceptions regarding audio-visual text collide and become evident. Starting from the analysis of the categories which compose the AdCD, various epistemological stands are discussed regarding documentary studies, specifically, those regarding style, sub-genre and rhetoric typologies. Finally, potential of archives as research tools are evaluated and their relation with heritage context is examined.
