The invention of the Forthcoming: Historical Time in the Thought of Juan David García Bacca
Abstract
This paper aims at offering an interpretation and reframing of contributions stemming from the Philosophy of the Spanish exile philosopher Juan David García Bacca when delving further into the conceptual problem regarding Time. Reading some of his works it provides different key-elements that offer conceptual tools so as to reframe tensions stemming from philosophical attempts to tackle with this problem. In this regards, this article takes Paul Ricoeur’s analysis on aporias of temporality as point of departure so as to bring light into the extent to which Garcia Bacca’s Metaphysics compels us to rethink the ontological foundations of time. His groundbreaking approach brings to the fore the relevance of instruments for measuring time – for temporalizing – when framing reality. By so doing, this paper paves the way towards understanding Garcia Bacca’s philosophy as providing a new insight into the relations between technique and temporality which reframe any approach to the notion of time.
