Famine and War in the Republic of the Sudan (1956-2011)
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to explain and analyze the natural and human causes of food insecurity and famines in the Republic of Sudan from 1956-2011. Therefore, four historical moments have been identified in which political, economic, social, ethnical, environmental and religious factors will be analyzed using secondary sources of recognized authors in the field of Sudan studies. In addition to this, statistics and databases will be applied in order to improve and enhance the contributions of these authors as well as the conclusions of this paper. These conclusions come together to identify war and armed conflict and their dynamics as a root cause of famines in Sudan.
