Abstract

This article deals with the Islamic world and several themes of the Islamic religion in the poems of byzantine Jewels (1902) by Antonio de Zayas. Through Modernist techiniques, his writing describes the Isamic world, its richness and exotic luxury. However, these poems are not only exoticist compositions. During his stay in Turkey, Antonio de Zayas could admire and learned to understand its Islamic monuments, mosques and sacred places. Most importantly, Zayas interprets several Islamic religious themes with great depth.
