Abstract

This article studies Alfonso X’s (The Wise Man) attitude towards Muslims in his poetic work, particularly The Songs of Holy Mary and the Profane Songs. Given that the Codices where the cantigas were compiled were published on different dates, it is also intended to assess whether the Wise King’s attitude changed over time. The analysis seems to indicate that the author's attitude towards Muslims worsened towards the final cantigas as the number of mentions and the proportion of negative mentions increased.
