Opening cracks in the 'impasse', binding peoples from literature: Intercultural intertextuality for the (de)construction of the Latin American orientalist discourse
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to focus on the use that is made of intertextuality in Latin American orientalist discourse. The aim is to determine, using an eclectic analytical approach, the role of this narratological resource, first, in the construction of an Ethnocentric paradigm based on an epistemological spectrum of hegemonic order. Such use that we call "harmful intertextuality" is clearly manifested in some literary productions framed in the modernist movement. But also, as a narrative strategy for the foundation of a new scriptural model of a cross-border nature that, in contrast to the first, we can call “intercultural intertextuality”. This new enunciation is articulated as a function of the meeting of the Western-Latin American selfhood and the Eastern-Moroccan alterity, thus making it possible to open cracks in a labyrinthine system, responsible for a distorted knowledge that has led to the understanding between East and West to an impasse. This article is inscribed, therefore, in the dynamics of consolidating the erosive and deconstructive work of a prejudicial model that has caused irreparable scars on both sides, and consequently the rapprochement of peoples and civilizations.
