The Muslim Judicial Procedure During the Spanish Protectorate of Morocco: Some Colonial Observations
Abstract
Between 1912 and 1956 many Spanish diplomats and members of the army published articles and books about their work on Moroccan territory, customs, religion and the Arab culture. These documents show the interest of the Spanish Administration in the social organization of the territory, especially regarding the correct functioning of Islamic justice, on which the success of Spain as colonial power depended. This paper analyzes the documentation published about the judicial institutions in Morocco during the Spanish Protectorate, in particular, the muslim procedure, its development, actors and its bureaucracy.
