The Gothic Tendency in the Poetry of Julio Inverso
Abstract
Uruguayan Julio Inverso (1963-1999), a poet almost unknown to Spanish literary critics, represents a gothic tendency in poetry. Inverso’s writing combines visionary romanticism with the world of gothic shadows. Urban territories inhabited by darkness, by the dead and by other creatures from beyond the grave are used by the poet to reveal existential fears, the phobias of contemporary life, the breakdown of love, loneliness and the incongruity of fate.Downloads
