Abstract

We study in the following work the theoretical object that we denominate the «ideology of everyday life», as a structure of sense made up of actors, values, institutions and practices. This structure is read in some stories of the argentine writer Roberto Arlt, that is, in his tales of El jorobadito and in his Aguafuertes porteñas. Considering ideology as a source of knowledge of reality from which a community defines what it is and what it does, we analyse the everyday world of Roberto Arlt’s stories, we approach the common sense displayed in them by the literary stereotype, and we conclude that the everyday life in Arlt’s narrative is fundamentally ideological, since it can lead to action. When this everyday life is affected by the imagination, the characters interpret the global sense of their world and this revelation becomes action in everyday life.
