Water management for the resilience of new urban settlements in Mexico: the case of the San Francisco hills urban complex
Abstract
The state of water in Mexico as in the world has unfavorable fluctuations that have occurred in the last decade and that, in addition, will be mostly accentuated according to the scenarios predicted by INECC. The current form of urbanization does not contribute positively. We show a case of the urban complex Colinas de San Francisco in which urbanization develops unsustainably, as in most Mexican cities. It also presents a lax legislation that allows it to be built in areas where previously existed lake areas or with natural relevance. The way it commonly happens is that the natural environment is adapted to build; and not vice versa which would be more beneficial to people and, respectful of the environment. It concludes with a viable proposal of how the same settlement could have developed when considering proper water management.
