Circular Memory in Laura Alcoba: Les rives de la mer Douce

Keywords: Laura Alcoba, memoria multidireccional, dictadura militar, exilio

Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyse Les rives de la mer Douce (2023) by Laura Alcoba, a work that sheds light on the writing process the author has undergone throughout her literary career. Daughter of Montonero activists in Argentina in the 1970s, she provides a first-person account of the situations she experienced, which, according to the theories of multidirectional memory (M. Rothberg, 2018), should remain inscribed in history. The uniqueness of this novel lies in the relationship between the past in her country of origin and the present reality in France, as well as in the inclusion of factual evidence supported by photographs. The theoretical foundation of this study is research on multidirectional memory, which illuminates the relationship between memory and history, as well as the close link between memory and identity.
