De l’emploi des parenthèses au début du XVIIe siècle : l’exemple de Claude Hopil
Abstract
A study on the brackets in Les Divins Élancements d’amour (1629), a collection of canticles by Claude Hopil, reveals a grammatical use which does not coincide with modern french : the distinction between rests and melody is confused ; brackets and commas are nearly synonymous ; some words in brackets cannot be deleted ; brackets are used for some unexpected syntactical functions. The brackets have also a stylistic interest : they suggest both the topic of the fog and the fullness of the spiritual enlightenment.Downloads
