Les Pierres Vives de Bertrand d'Astorg

  • JEAN-LUC Pouliquen

Abstract

- Poet and literary critic, Bertrand d' Astorg (1913-1988) was dependent from the very start on the fortunes of the Editions du Seuil which played an important part in the intellectual landscape of France in the post-war period. Three of these principal books are studied here, which constitute a coherent and major sequence in the development of his work. All three are organized around the love of the Woman, such as was evoked in Western literature through the centuries and in the various forms which it could take. As a poet, the author proposes an original approach which highlights the complex relation which exists between the meaning of life and literary creation.
