Solidarity: a Remedy for Injustice and a Factor in Social Integration in Contre vents et marées by Dinguest Zenaba (2021) and Les Mamelles de l’amour by Fatoumata Kéïta (2019)
Abstract
This article reflects on the importance of solidarity as both assistance to individuals facing existential misfortune and as compassion in the face of exclusion. The analysis focuses on Contre vents et marées by Dinguest Zenaba and Les Mamelles de l’amour by Fatoumata Kéïta, exploring how the heroines’ journeys highlight solidarity’s role in altering the course of life. Its starting point is the question: How does solidarity foster resistance to injustice and combat the rejection of the Other? The objective is to assess the impact of human support in alleviating the suffering caused by certain social realities. Grounded in the sociocritical approach developed by Edmond Cros and Claude Duchet, the discussion is structured around solidarity as both a pragmatic and humanitarian action and a decision influenced by circumstances in both novels.
