The political and social voice of Annie Ernaux in the media
Abstract
When the numerous studies devoted to Annie Ernaux address the social and political dimension of her writing, it is almost exclusively her literary production to which they refer (Fort & Houdart-Merot, 2015). However, the thoughts and words of the writer have been − and continue to be − felt in the public arena also through a significant diversity of expressions in the media, sometimes signed by her own hand. These discourses held in the media environment relate to the way the creator inscribes herself in the world (Wroblewski, 2020) and demonstrate her goals of investing visibility capital (Heinich, 2013) achieved through her literary activity. The more Ernaux's notoriety has increased, the more her opinions on political or social facts carry weight. This article analyzes ten renowned press tribunes written by Ernaux between 2005 and 2023 in which she clearly voices her opposition to the political and social order.
