Abstract

The connection between fashion and literature finds its epicenter in the cultural milieu of the nineteenth century, a time when Honoré de Balzac stands out—both in essayistic and narrative aspects—in his analysis of the relationship between society and attire. Drawing from sociology, fashion theory, and authorial studies, the present text addresses Lost Illusions (1837) in the light of the social contexts of the aristocracy, the bourgeoisie, and the artists.
