A Poetics of the Split: Exile and Pain in the Narrative of Agota Kristof
Abstract
This work collects previous research that affirms that the style of Agota Kristof (Hungary, 1935-Switzerland, 2011) is the result of a life experience of exile and language change. From this point of departure, we analyze in six works by Kristof, how pain (Ahmed, 2015) is presented as the emotion that separates identities, but which may also restore the subjectivity of the characters. Amputation and prosthesis function as the processes that advance the story, and that are evidence of that same wound from which a poetics of excision emerges.
