Seferis and French Literature in his Poetic Formation: Testimonies from the Correspondence with his Sister
Abstract
George Seferis was one of the most important Greek poets of the 20th century. Awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1963, his work became well known all over the world and was translated into many languages. The strong influence the authors of French Romanticism and Symbolism had on his formation and then his poetic work is evident in the correspondence he maintained with his sister Ioanna during the years the poet was a student in Paris. The objective of this work is to analyse how French literature strengthened the basis of young Seferis' poetic style.
