Analysis and translation of orality features in the novel "Béni ou le paradis privé" by Azouz Begag

Abstract

One of the distinctive features of beur literature is its linguistic miscegenation, formed by Arabic terms and culturemes, in addition to the representation of orality. From the translation perspective, translating these narratives implies a significant challenge, which has lead us to carry out an analysis of orality features of the novel Béni ou le paradis privé, by Azouz Begag. The objectives of this paper are first to bring forward a classification of those features at the phonetic, morphosyntactic, lexical and semantic levels, as well as the translation into Spanish with the justification for our proposals. Likewise, we aim to bring this literature closer to the Spanish audience and to show the multicultural richness of this work through translation.

Author Biography

Soledad Díaz Alarcón, Universidad de Córdoba

Doctora por la Universidad de Córdoba. Docente en el Grado de Traducción e Interpretación y en el Máster de Traducción Especializada de dicha universidad. Sus líneas de investigación son la Traducción Literaria (francés-español), en particular la narrativa francesa del siglo XIX y la novela policíaca, así como la Didáctica de la traducción. Docente desde 1991 en distintas instituciones, entró en la Universidad de Córdoba en 2008 en la Licenciatura de Traducción e Interpretación, impartiendo materias relacionadas con la traducción literaria francés-español y traducción especializada en el Máster de Traducción Especializada de la Universidad de Córdoba. En cuanto a su labor investigadora, tiene publicados 20 artículos de revistas, así como una veintena de capítulos de libro y varios libros sobre novela policíaca. Ha realizado varias estancias en universidades extranjeras (Wolverhampton, Inglaterra; Rosario, Argentina; Tours, Francia, etc.) y ha sido ponente en numerosos congresos internacionales. Asimismo ha dirigido varias tesis y múltiples trabajos de fin de máster.
