Abstract

After its publication in 1862, Les Misérables by Victor Hugo gave rise to many a negative reaction from writers and critics of its time. This study compares their positions with the one defended by Mario Vargas Llosa in La tentación de lo imposible: Victor Hugo y Los Miserables, with the aim to analyze different interpretations of the novel and the questions raised in them.
