Theatrical dissemination of transformism: the case of "Les deux Jockos", 1825
Abstract
In the nineteenth century transformism emerges in the scientific discourse. The philosophical and social implications of this emergence are translated, amongst other forms, into theatrical plays in which the subject matter reflects the dissemination of these new ideas. Les deux Jockos, 1825, exemplifies this type of representations which engage in the transformistic debate in a society still dominated by the unbending (“fixistic”) norms defended by institutional and social elites. Thus, the analysis of the play will reveal the elements related to the new naturalistic paradigm while evincing the influence of the historical, social and cultural reality upon the theatrical genre.Downloads
