Abstract

In this article we analyze explanations of the process of re-syllabication or re-syllabic cutting in French syntactical phonetic phenomena—such as the liaison, the sequence, or the elision—as they appear in a corpus of twenty-eight grammars and French textbooks intended for the Spanish public during the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. We suggest a classification of these works according to the importance that their authors give to the aforementioned process, and we try to explain the different classification methods.
