The elaboration of a program for French as a language of tourism in the Jordanian university context
Abstract
To train qualified tour guides, Yarmouk University created the Department of Tourism. The students of this department had to choose a foreign language as a minor. The French language (the subject of our research) is included on the list of foreign languages taught at Yarmouk. Despite the creation of the department, apparently no program has been implemented to suit the needs of new Tourism students. They follow the same general curriculum designed for students in the French department.
The elaboration of a program of French for Specific purposes (FSP) requires a specific approach consisting of four steps: the analysis of the demand for this kind of training; the analysis of learners’ needs, the collection and analysis of data, and finally the elaboration of classroom activities.
The object of this research is to propose a scientific approach for the elaboration of a program better suited for the needs and demands of the learners
