Beyond the automation. Impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on Working Conditions and Qualifications

Abstract

The current digitalization of companies in the industrial sector generates a new digital environment that has diverse effects on working conditions, representing a new model of consumption and organization of the human factor in factories and workshops. This article presents some of the results obtained in five-year research to measure and evaluate the occupational impact of Industry 4.0. Specifically, the results are presented regarding the existence of a series of factors that, because of the digitalization of companies, have the capacity to alter working conditions in different jobs and occupations.

Author Biography

José Luis López Carmona

Doctor in Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid. His research area is the transformations of work in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is defined as work 4.0. He recently read his doctoral thesis at the Complutense University on the effects of the digitalization of the industry on occupations and jobs in the Spanish manufacturing sector.

His professional career has been in the business world, developing a career of more than 20 years in the area of Human Resources, and occupying management and consulting positions specialized in Selection and Training. Since 2017 he has worked as an independent professional, developing consulting and learning management projects related to digitalization and its consequences for organizations and people.

He is the author of the blog Trabajo 4.0 (trabajo4cero.com).
