1979: Strike Year. A defensive labor dispute?

Abstract

This paper approaches the intense labor unrest experienced during 1979. This wave of strikes was framed by the process of political change and the worsening of the oil crisis that would end up hitting the Spanish economy hard. Contrary to what has been held so far, this contribution tries to reinterpret the meaning of the intense mobilization, questioning its eminently defensive character through combined quantitative analysis and historical method
