Collective action around digital platforms in Argentina
Abstract
The article analyses the conflict around digital platforms in Argentina between 2016 and 2019. It addresses the deployment of the platforms during the period and the linked political, judicial and institutional processes, along with the evolution and main characteristics of the conflict. In particular, the article describes the organization processes and collective action of the main contentious actors: taxi drivers and workers of delivery platforms. A press base of news related to digital platforms and a catalog of collective actions around location-based platforms were developed. In addition, documentary analysis was carried out. The analysis shows that during the first semester of 2016 a conflictive escalation took place. After its stagnation, a cycle of protest began in the second half of 2018. This occurred in a context of "bad news" linked to the ineffectiveness of state powers to regulate and control companies. While the taxi sector mobilized in rejection of passenger transportation platforms, the workers of delivery platforms acted to improve their working conditions.
