Abstract

This article deals with the results of the opening of economic activities to the participation of women in Argentina, taking the case of mass passenger transport by land and commercial air. Their participation in the activity, work trajectories and perceived barriers, are studied in 2020.

The methodology combines statistical analysis of secondary data with semi-estructured interviews with female workers. The variables analyzed by gender were number of workers by mode and occupational category, time career, and age. The interviews explore gender relations in the workplace, social demands on their performances and perceived obstacles to their professional development.

The empirical evidence corroborates that transportation constitutes and activity of male domination in which processes of vertical and horizontal segregation act, relegating women to positions with lower pay, hierarchy and qualification, supported by cultural barriers based on gender stereotypes.
