The Ministry of Labor and social legislation in the transit period from the twentieth century to the XXI century
Abstract
During the period 1996-2004 the Ministry of Labour extended its competences to new areas of social policy, such as the promotion of gender equality, child protection and social services for the elderly. During this time, a number of Labour Law reforms were carried out, some adjustments were made to the Social Security schemes, a new regulation for the Labour Inspectorate was approved and new laws on employment policy and foreign labour were drafted. Many of these legal interventions were preceded by social dialogue processes and some of them involved the incorporation of EU guidelines. Both the minimum wage and pensions experienced moderate increases.
