The Asturian and Galician diasporas of unskilled workers in pre-industrial Madrid (1700-1840)
Abstract
This article approximates to the informal practices that arose within the Asturian and Galician diasporas in Madrid at the end of Old Regime as an example of the network forged by the poor or “unskilled” labor immigrants, who have been traditionally studied many times from the historiography of poverty, without paying attention to their relationship with their families and countrymen’s . In order to know about part of our protagonist’s social life and practices we analyze 5370 testaments and declarations of poverty left in the Real Hospital General y de la Pasión of Madrid
