Facework: digital labor, social netcorks and new serfdom
Abstract
Digital social networks are productive territories that are affecting our usual understanding and definition of labor and political economy. Focusing in the case of Facebook, this article analyzes a model of digital accumulation of capital throught the colonization of the entire human living experience. This text proposes an analytical approach to the productive nature of our usual activity in the social networks paying special attention to its omnipresent quality. From this perspective, the digital activity of produsers is revealed as labor and digital social networks are presented as a territory of a deep and invisible exploitation.
