Abstract
Teamsters: the heavy burden of lean production
The heavy burden of lean production presents some thoughts on how working con-ditions and life of long distance teamsters have been one of the main and least visible supports of the Spanish model of economic growth over recent years. This sector is one of the first that has been affected by the current economic crisis. It is a paradig-matic activity with a specific role in the process called “tertiarization” of the Spanish economy, and, in terms of its analytical potential, it is linked to the problem of un-productive work. In short, this activity is a relevant analyzer to think critically the current economic reality in terms of a low way development model: it is an activity that has been the conduit of the “flux tendu” imposed by outsourcing strategies ori-ented to low labor costs and work intensification.
