Aproximación lingüístico-etimolóxica á toponimia das comarcas de Xallas, Fisterra e Soneira
Abstract
In this paper, we propose an etymological study of eleven place-names which give their names to several villages in the Galician regions of Xallas, Fisterra and Soneira. In order to this, we compile the attestations of these place-names which appear in different medieval collections and compare every form with other homonyms, analogous toponymical denominations and lexical items which could have suffered a similar treatment at any level. The conjunction of all these variables leads us to propose for each place-name an etymological base whose evolution obliges us to ponder aspects as hipercorrection, refaction or graphic representation of certain dialectal phenomenons (seseo). Other times, that etymological base reveals us the existence of old lexems which lost their apellative value and survived only as toponymical denominations.Downloads
