Exile and language in the 21st century: the choice of a new literary language

  • Diego Muñoz Carrobles Universidad Complutense de Madrid
Keywords: exile, translingualism, identity, language switch.

Abstract

In this work we are going to deal with the “translingualism” asociated to the idea of exile, which is the author’s choice of a new language, different to his/her first language or mother tongue to begin or to continue their literary career. These authors, linguistically exiled, decide to write in a different language in order to belong to a wider cultural universe or to get away from their past.
