Legislative framework of works Integration Social Enterprise (WISEs) in Spain. Historical approximation and current moment

Abstract

In the last two decades, Works Integration Social Enterprise (WISEs) have experienced great growth in terms of their volume and especially in relation to the number of people they employ. Located within the scope of the social economy, in the current Spanish context of socioeconomic crisis, they represent one of the measures with the greatest impact for groups in a situation or risk of exclusion from among the different active employment policies. This article aims to value this fact, making a historical journey of them until reaching the current moment, highlighting the key moments that have positively affected its expansion and paying special attention to the current moment in terms of figures, objectives and potentialities. . To do this, we will begin by locating the WISEs within the social economy through the social companies of which they form part, as defined in Law 5/2011 on the social economy. We will continue making a historical journey from its origins to the present, paying special attention to those significant moments for its development and we will end up focusing on the current moment in terms of its importance, pointing out some data that can give us a clear image of its magnitude. within active employment policies aimed at disadvantaged groups.
