Body, History and Freedom in Friedrich Nietzsche and Pierre Bourdieu

Keywords: body, history, freedom, morality, habitus

Abstract

The article first investigates the centrality of the dimension of the body, history, and freedom in the work of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. Subsequently, these three categories will be analysed in the thoughts of both authors. Thirdly, the unavoidable differences between the theoretical and political purpose of Nietzsche and Bourdieu will be studied. Then, and finally, it explores the commonalities between two authors who have so far not been eloquently studied. In each of its stages, this work vindicates the relevance of carrying out a comparative analysis between two authors who at first sight appear to be very distant.
