Philosophy of Science in Spanish on Both Shores: From the Spanish Society of Philosophy and History of Science to the Spanish Society of Logic and Philosophy of Science
Abstract
Two institutions, the Spanish Society of Philosophy and History of Science and the Society for Logic and Philosophy of Science in Spain, have played pivotal roles: the former contributed to the initial establishment of philosophy of science in Spanish, while the latter has brought it to full consolidation. This paper aims to present an overview of Hispanic philosophy of science, focusing mainly on Spain, across the forty years between the founding of these two societies, which I divide into three phases: foundation, development, and consolidation, aligned with international trends. I have gathered as much information as possible to reflect the academic strength of the philosophy of science in those times in Spanish and hope to have done justice to those who laid the foundations, upheld, and solidified this discipline before us.
