Metaphysical Freedom of Dasein following Heidegger’s early interpretation of Schelling’s Freiheitsschrift
Abstract
Freedom is the essential concept of “Metaphysics of Dasein”, that Heidegger developed in the late 1920s in continuity with Fundamental Ontology of Sein und Zeit, and that is articulated with two other concepts: Transcendence and Ground of existence. It is in this time when Heidegger studied Schelling’s freedom treatise (Freiheitsschrift), by performing an early and positive interpretation, that becomes diluted in his following and more critical readings of the work. Following the main idea of this paper, thanks to his early reading of Schelling’s freedom conception, with regard to the idea of freedom in Kant’s practical philosophy, by overtaking the Idealistic-Transcendental layers of Freiheitsschrift, and by discovering in it prefiguration of Ontological Difference and Temporality of existence, Heidegger outlined the metaphysical and ultimate meaning of the essence of existence, whose possibility of being is freedom.
