Excisions. Towards an Impolitical Notion of Decision in Massimo Cacciari
Abstract
This paper aims to examine the relevance of the category of “decision” in the emergence of contemporary impolitical thought in Italy. To achieve this goal, I will conduct an exegesis of the role of this notion in Massimo Cacciari’s works in the late 1970s. I will begin by considering his Nietzschean perspective on the crisis of traditional metaphysical and political categories. This examination will lead us to study his analysis of sovereignty from the perspective of a “creaturely conception” of political order. In this sense, we will argue that Cacciari’s critique of the concept of decision forms the foundation of the impolitical horizon from its inception. Furthermore, this interpretation will allow us to grasp the philosophical significance of his perspective.
