Reception of Saint Augustine music definition (Mus.1.2.2) in the work and thought of Saint Isidore of Seville
Abstract
The famous definition of Saint Augustine (Mus.1.2.2) had a significant later influence and it was gathered by important authors such as Saint Isidore, who defines music in a similar way in different places of his work. The aim of this article is to locate and analyze these Isidore definitions to delimit their meanings and their scope within the musical thought of the bishop from Seville, as well as the possible sources used by Saint Isidore for their development.
