Remarks on the Relationship between Living Body and World in J. Patočka’s Philosophy

  • Ángel Enrique Garrido Maturano CONICET
Keywords: Patočka’s, living body, world, the divine

Abstract

The article deals with the notion of living body and its relationship with the world in J. Patočka’s thought. First, it analyzes the reference to the world provided by essential features of the living body. Then it shows the extent to which this body can be conceived as a result of the ontogenetic, phenomenological, regenerative, and teleological movement of embodiment of the world in human beings. Furthermore, the ultimate meaning of human bodily existence is explained as an ethical movement of disembodiment of human beings with regard to the world. Finally, the article interprets both movements of embodiment and disembodiment as a testimony to divine action in the universe.
